Web browsing on Android has its advantages, but it still feels limited in many ways when you compare it with browsing the internet on desktops. This applies to even the best web browsers, including Google Chrome. However, even with limitations, some perform better than others on Android in certain scenarios.
Google Chrome on Android is no different. But now, it has one more reason to boast, as Google has introduced a solid new feature to its browser on Android. Instead of building something entirely new, the Mountain View tech giant has adopted a feature that already existed for years on its desktop counterpart.
Google Chrome for Android borrows a feature from its desktop counterpart
As spotted by Android Authority, Google has quietly added the bookmark bar to Chrome for Android. It’s the same bookmark bar that appears on the Chrome desktop client, showing users’ favorite websites right below the omnibox. This means your favorite websites are easier to access on Chrome for Android, just as they are on desktop.
Prior to this, the bookmark bar was visible only under the Bookmarks option, which you can find in Chrome’s three-dot menu option. So, it was hidden under multiple layers, which wasn’t as accessible as the bookmark bar on Chrome’s desktop counterpart. But those days are now behind us, as Chrome on Android now offers users the ability to access their favorite websites through the bookmark bar.
To enable the bookmark bar on Chrome’s Android client, open Settings and go to the Appearance page, where you’ll find the Show bookmark bar toggle. Enable it to display the bookmark bar on Chrome for Android.
As is the case with Chrome’s desktop client, it won’t show all the websites that you bookmarked. For those who want to get quick access to all their bookmarks, the bookmark bar has an All bookmarks option on the right side. That’s far more convenient than digging into settings to find your favorite websites.
However, don’t expect any of this to work on your Android smartphone yet. As you can see in the above screenshots, the bookmark bar for Chrome for Android appears to be available only for tablets.
Unfortunately, Google hasn’t made any official announcement regarding the arrival of the bookmark bar on Chrome for Android, so there is no clarity about whether it’ll expand the bookmark bar feature to Android phones in the future.
